Thus， be optimistic， ladies and gentlemen， as it can giveyou confidence and help you see yourself through the hard times， just as WinstonChurchill once said， “An optimist sees an opportunity in every calamity; apessimist sees a calamity in every opportunity。”
Ladies and Gentlemen， keeping optimistic， you will be able to realize， inspite of some hardship， there’s always hope waiting for you， which will lead youto the ultimate success。 Historically as well as currently， there are too manyoptimists of this kind to enumerate。 You see， Thomas Edison is optimistic; ifnot， the light of hope in his heart could not illuminate the whole world。 AlfredNobel is optimistic; if not， the explosives and the prestigious Nobel Prizewould not have e into being。 And Lance Armstrong is also optimistic; if not， thedevil of cancer would have devoured his life and the world would not see a5-time winner of the Tour De France。
A rose may be beautiful， or maybe not; that depends on your attitude only，and so does success， so does life。 Hindrances and difficulties do exist， but ifyou are optimistic， then they are only episodes on your long way to the throneof success; they are more bridges than obstacles! I’m very honored to stand here and give you a short speech! my topic isOpportunities and Challenges。
First， I would like to know， what does your destiny offer you? Happiness，wisdom， a strong body or something else。 If I had asked this question topresident Nixon， he would probably had said，”Our destiny offers not the cup ofdespair， but the chalice of opportunity。”
Needless to say， one of the biggest opportunities given to China is the20_ Olympic Games。 Till now， we have used two sevenths of the preparation time。How much changes have you seen? New roads， new subway lines， public-exercisingequipments with beautiful colors， large blocks of grass fields， and also lots ofmodern gyms which are under construction。
Other than those， there are even more good effects brought to us by theOlympic Games that cannot be seen directly。 For example， more and more peoplewill get to know China。 I’m sure the mysterious Chinese culture will attractthem strongly。 And the games will also do good to the economy and environment，for it is gaining the attention of foreign investors and the awareness ofenvironmental protection is being strengthened。 What is more， Olympic Games givea unique opportunity to inspire and educate a new generation of Chinese youthwith the Olympic values and the Olympic spirit。 Now that we have seen so manyadvances， could you even imagine us losing the holding rights?
I’ve already said a lot about the Olympics and China。 But I think everyoneshould use some time to think of this question， ”Does the Olympic Games have anyspecial meaning to you?”
For us， I mean the Chinese youth， 20_ Olympic Games is a tremendous gift。Because what we are waiting for is to do something significant as repaying thelove given to us 。The society is just like a ship， and in our dreams the captainis waving his hand and saying ”Hey! thank you very much for choosing to e in such a cold night。today my topicis about choice and process。a research shows that a man has to make 73 choicesone day。with so many choices one day， people easily get so confused and afraidof making wrong choice that they hesitate and finally miss the true part oflife。 in my opinion， the following part is of much more importance than thechoice。 there is no absolute right or wrong choice but wonderful or boring life，which the process makes the difference。
life is a box of chocolate，you never know what you will get。 forrest gumpmade no decision by and for himself but he acplished great success with hisstrong will in the process。 the process is not the road itself but the attitudesand feelings ，the caution， courage and persistance we have as we encounter newexperience and unexpected obstacles。 take myself as an example， i changed mymajor when i became a postgraduate。 after the choice，days have been harsh forme。i cannot understand the new lessons at all。 for they are closely related tomathmatics which i learned nothing about before。 however wuth the belief thatthis is the great chance for me to experience new ideas and challenge myself，ipersisted。 i asked for help from every channel and reorgonized my life。gradually i could understand some parts and even found mathsinteresting。moreover， i learned to act instead of plaining。 in retrospect，thechoice left no trace in my mind but the happiness and bitterness of the pastfour months bees an unforgetable experience in my life。
